October 2017 Newsletter Released
Since 1886, Innovation has been our tradition. And, in a political climate where English education has seen much change and turbulence, it is, in my view, even more important for schools like Skipton Girls’ to be the innovators, to ‘be brave, cultivate resilience in both our staff and students and be the ones to help shape the national educational landscape’.
In my experience this year, I have observed many brilliant examples of our students making personal achievements and growth. They know that their voices matter and understand that part of their purpose is to live lives of principle and integrity – in particular, our Year 12 and Year 13 students must be congratulated for their endless volunteering, work- experience and charitable activities both in the UK and abroad, throughout the year. Work on our ECO school status and commitment to sustainability further exemplify the abilities of our students to make a real difference to their environment.
I have enjoyed meeting many parents and families this term, during the Enrichment Week of activities; the fabulous Transition Day for our 143-new year 7s; spectacular Year 5 Open evening; revision talks; e-safety evenings; Friends of SGHS events and of course our wholly inspiring Art Exhibition - it has been great to see so many parents getting involved in their children’s learning and education.
Next year we plan to host many more partnership events - please watch the website for more details.
As we end the year and I move into my new role as Executive Headteacher and CEO of our Trust, Northern Star Academies Trust, I would like to recognise the exceptional group of staff we have at SGHS who bring passion, energy and professionalism to their roles, day in, day out, making a difference to the life chances of all our wonderful students – Thankyou!
On behalf of SGHS Governors and staff I would like to congratulate all our students for a magnificent year– you are all SGHS STARS!
Please enjoy a relaxing and fun summer holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and reinvigorated in September 2017.
