New Park Primary Newsletter - 18th July 2017

Here is our latest newsletter.

Dear Parents and Children,

Here is our last newsletter for the year and my last newsletter to you as headteacher!

First of all, as usual, a big WELL DONE to the children and staff for their hard work over the year. We have seen another good effort with our Reception outcomes and in the Y1 phonics screening assessment. The pupils as a whole have made good progress across the school however our KS1 and KS2 end of key stage results remain challenging. Looking ahead I would ask the parents of those children currently in Y1 and Y5 to fully support the school where this is concerned next year. The staff work incredibly hard to help your children progress but there has to be an understanding of, and commitment to, academic success from an early stage if the school is to achieve what it deserves.

Next, the building work will commence at the start of the holidays so everyone should have a much pleasanter reception area to come in to at the start of September.

This year we say thanks and goodbye to a number of staff. Miss Rimmer will be leaving us having done a great job covering for Mrs. Bailey whilst she has been away from school. We also say goodbye to Mrs. Shaw who has taught our Y1 pupils for almost the entirety of the last two years so thanks to her as well. Miss Scott leaves us to take up a new post having worked here for the last three years, completing her induction year with us and making a great all round contribution to the school. We wish all of them the very best for the future.

Thanks are due to the PTFA who have done so much to raise much needed cash for the school but as always I would ask that more people try to become involved in the organisation of events to share the load. The money raised from events directly benefits the children and they are a part of the fabric of the school community. Thanks also to the small number of dedicated volunteers that work in school who have supported the children in all kinds of ways- it would be great to see more of these too!

As you all know, I will be leaving at the end of term and although not retiring from working life completely this is my final farewell as a headteacher. I have had a long run at it in a number of schools and whilst it has been hard work and not without its frustrations I am pleased that I have been able to conclude by supporting New Park over the last six years and believe that in many respects this is a happier and better place than the one I found. I shall be working more broadly with a large group of schools for a local authority and I am looking forward to the change. Thanks go to everyone that I have encountered here in the school for their support, dedication and commitment to improving the lives of the children who attend the school. In all likelihood our paths will not cross again so, to all, I wish you peaceful, happy and fulfilled lives. Goodbye.

A leaver’s assembly will take place on Friday 21st at 9.15am for anyone who would like to attend.

A final reminder from the office to ensure that all outstanding payments are received by Wednesday so that accounts can be closed.

School closes on Friday 21st July at 2.30pm. Please note that there will be no after school club. School re-opens to the children on Tuesday 5th September at the usual time.

Yours Sincerely,

Andrew Tomlinson
