Go20 Gargrave Road Campaign

Help us to achieve safer roads for our children and young people.

Latest: A massive thank you from our Headteacher for all of the community and school support in helping us reach 1000 signatures!

GO20ad3

A letter from our Headteacher

I am writing to seek your support with an important matter that pertains to the safety of all users of Gargave Road.

Everyone – adults and children – should be able to walk and cycle in their communities, for their health and enjoyment, and as a sustainable way to get about, without being put in danger. It's a fundamental right. At Skipton Girls’ we feel passionate about keeping our children and young people safe on their journey to and from school and in supporting them with road safety and driver awareness.

Noticeably, Gargarve Road, has become one of the busiest roads in Skipton with approximately 3000 children and young people using the road Monday to Friday.

Since I arrived in Skipton as Headteacher of SGHS, I have become increasingly concerned about the congestion and volume of traffic; parents parking dangerously outside school to drop off and pick up children and the conflict on the road and neighbouring streets which, sadly at times has been incredibly disrespectful to local residents.

Skipton Girls’ High School wish to take the initiative to launch an Urban 20 Campaign through the organisation BRAKE. We would like to work with the community; Julian Smith MP and local and County Councillors to implement GO 20 and 20mph limits for Gargrave Road and to address the road traffic issues AND to find sustainable solutions to school transport and parking.

Please support us by signing our online GO 20 Petition, and in our main school reception.

We can all make a huge difference to road safety in our local community areas, and therefore to children and other local residents’ lives, by joining together to support this campaign.
