SGHS wins the 2017 ENTHUSE Award for STEM Secondary School of the Year
Well done to Mrs Westcott, with the support of the Data & Exams team, for ensuring the smooth operational running of the Summers 2016 exams season.
A staggering amount of work goes into the planning of the exams season to ensure all students have the right environment for sitting their exams - after all, this is the culmination of their hard work and their springboard to the next chapter of their education. Mrs Westcott manages this huge administrative task calmly, professionally and sensitively to ensure that an outstanding service is provided to students and teachers in order to minimise stress at an intense time of the year.
Planning starts in January with the preparation of entries to the exam boards, then once agreed she tackles seating plans (this takes 2 full weeks to do), sorting out any clashes of exams, managing a team of 15 invigilators, re-rooming classes where necessary (over 400 lessons were required to be moved this year), ensuring that we are prepared for the JCQ no-notice inspection each exam centre has (passed with flying colours!), ensuring coursework is sent off for moderation, every exam paper is promptly sent off to the right place, plus much more. The busiest day this year involved over 160 candidates sitting exams at the same time, across 8 different rooms with the support of 15 invigilators.
But 4,600 examination papers later her work isn't done - it's then planning for results day and as an ex-Chemistry teacher, she then moves onto her marking of GCSE Chemistry papers for the exam board AQA! Phew!
