SGHS wins the 2017 ENTHUSE Award for STEM Secondary School of the Year
Eva is one of Ben Rhydding Hockey Club’s most improved players of the season. With more than 40 girls in the Under 14 group, Eva’s strength is her positional play. She reads the game well, makes good leads for her team mates and runs well into space. She has worked hard on the technical elements of the game and understands where she still needs to improve, such as more power in her hitting. Eva is a great team player, and has the flexibility to play in both midfield and attack, quickly adapting to whatever position she’s asked to play.
The Under 14 team were unbeaten but finished runners up in the North finals to Alderley Edge on goal difference, after drawing 0-0. Earlier 1-0 & 2-1 wins over Kirby Lonsdale & Leicester respectively, meant that only a win over an Alderley Edge side with a superior goal difference from their first 2 matches, would see Eva & her Ben Rhydding teammates progress. Despite early chances and then a last minute all or nothing attempt to find the winner, Alderley’s defence held strong and Eva and her team mates had to settle for runners up position, missing out on their qualification to the National Finals at Lee Valley next month.
