The school, ranked outstanding by Ofsted, has joined the Northern Stars Academies Trust (NSAT) becoming part of the Skipton Girls High School family.

The primary school, which has been open throughout the coronavirus lockdown, has worked in close partnership with the trust throughout the crisis and during the last year. It is the first school in Skipton to become part of the Northern Star Trust partnership, which in addition to the high school has six other secondary and primary schools, including Harrogate High School and Eastwood Community School in Keighley.

Kelly Tempest, chairwoman of governors at Greatwood Primary School, said: ‘Governors took a resolution to join the Northern Stars Academies Trust earlier in the year as we recognised the importance and benefits of collaboration and local schools supporting each other.

“As a strong school, rated as outstanding by Ofsted, we have the expertise and capacity to make a real difference within a trust. Our schools share a common purpose and belief that all children can, and will, succeed. We can build on our own, and their, success and share knowledge, resources and best practice to provide excellent learning opportunities and experiences for our students.”

Jonelle Yeoman, Greatwood’s headteacher, added: ‘The children, governors, staff and Greatwood community are delighted to be joining Northern Star Academy Trust from the start of September. Greatwood is an exceptional school and we have already been working collaboratively for some time with colleagues from the trust.

“Our school ethos and values of; happiness, kindness, teamwork, creativity, resilience and pride are closely interlinked with the trust’s values. We are excited to not only share our expertise within the trust but to learn from the exceptional colleagues from the five primary and two secondary schools within NSAT.”

She added: “As educators we have a moral purpose to improve the education and opportunities for our children and as part of the trust we will continue to go from strength to strength.”

Jenn Plews, chief executive officer of the NSAT and former headteacher of Skipton Girls’ High School said: “Community is at the heart of everything we do. NSAT has a compelling vision to nurture learning in a sustainable environment so that our whole community can thrive, aspire and succeed, a vision deeply shared with Greatwood Primary School.”
