Trust Leader (Chief Exectuive Officer)
I was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Northern Star Academies Trust in 2017, following five highly enjoyable and successful years as Headteacher of Skipton Girls’ High School.
Education has been a constant throughout my life, beginning my career in 1995 as a Secondary Teacher of Art and Design. I was inspired to train to teach by my mum, who was a lifelong Secondary School teacher (born and bred in Middlesbrough), she modelled throughout my childhood the importance of creativity and self-expression, a strong understanding of social justice, while carefully developing in me a sense of self-efficacy and a tremendous work ethic – to this day she exemplifies the power of great education to me as she studies for her PhD.
During my career I’ve taught and led in five Local Authorities, experiencing many leadership roles within secondary schools and Local Authority School Improvement. I vehemently believe in system improvement and see myself as a bridge-builder working to establish effective partnerships and champion the voice of the child, within the context of an outward-facing and cross-phase Trust Partnership.
As a National Leader of Education (NLE), I am highly committed to working across the sector to share effective learning and practice and strengthen education provision. Through collaboration, as a Trust Partnership, Teaching School and SCITT, we seek to build each other’s strengths so that we may benefit the broader education community.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Strategic vision and values
- Organisation growth, innovation and development
- Whole Trust overall effectiveness
- National and political engagement
- Accounting Officer (NSAT, NLTSA and NLSCITT)
- Risk management
- Head teacher performance and appraisal
- National Leader of Education (NLE)
